When To Use Textured Floor Paint

| |

Whether you’re planning to paint a factory floor, a children’s play area or an MOT bay, there are dozens of types of floor paint to choose from and it’s essential to choose the right type for the application you have in mind.

For example, when painting asphalt you need a different type of paint than you would if you’re painting a previously untreated concrete floor. Many paints are available in a smooth and a textured version so once you’ve determined the suitability of your chosen paint for the purpose, you need to decide which option to go for.

Smooth and textured paints each offer distinct benefits and are formulated for different applications. In this blog, we’re going to take a closer look at the difference between smooth and textured paints and when each one might be used:

When To Choose Smooth Floor Paint

Smooth floor paints provide an attractive, smooth finish, often with a mirror-like gloss. They come in either two-pack, single or solvent-free versions and are formulated to suit a wide variety of applications. Smooth floor paints are ideal for locations where the finish of the flooring should cause no resistance, such as where wheeled equipment needs to be moved around. Smooth floor paints are very easy to clean and some types are resistant to oil and water spillages.

Painting a floor with smooth floor paint requires careful preparation. The surface needs to be completely clean and free of grease, oil or dirt and a primer may need to be applied depending if the concrete is bare or already painted, but once applied, the attractive finish of smooth floor paint will transform almost any surface.

When To Opt For Textured Floor Paint

Textured floor paint is also available Single pack and two pack epoxy floor paints the key difference between textured and smooth floor paint being the addition an aggregate to give it the rough textured finish. Textured floor paints are very evenly distributed to create an excellent anti-slip finish.

Textured floor paints not only reduce the risk of slipping, but they also protect the surface of concrete floors, reducing maintenance and increasing its durability. They’re often used on ramps and in workshops, garages and other environments where spillages are a risk.
