How to Apply Bitumen Paint

1. Preparation

1. Remove furniture from and around the plaint-splatter zone
2. Place your cover on the areas you want to protect
3. Put on the PPE
4. Using your broom, brush away any loose leaves, dirt and debris
5. Pressure wash the painting are

7. Apply one coat of paint stripper using a paint brush or roller (if applicable)
8. Wait for 30 minutes (24 for best results)
9. Remove the old paint using a scraper or wire brush
10. Use a wire brush to remove rust (if applicable)
11. Sand the surface until it is smooth

    3. Paint directly onto the object or roll it on the floor

    3. Paint directly onto the object or roll it on the floor
    4. Wait for 4 hours before applying the next coat (24 for best results)

    4. Topcoat

    1. Stir the topcoat well
    2. Pour the topcoat into the tray or onto the floor
    3. Paint directly onto the object or roll it on the floor
    4. Wait for 6 hours to dry (24 for best results)

    5. Cleaning

    1. Clean the tools and equipment with acetone
    2. Submerge in boiling water (if the paint didn’t fall off)
    3. Wait up to 5 minutes for the paint to bubble
    4. Remove tools and equipment
    5. Repeat until the paint falls off

    Precautions to Consider

    • You may not need a primer or topcoat
    • You might require three or four coats of bitumen paint
    • The bitumen paint may not be suitable for indoor use, ponds or pools
    • Do not paint when too hot
    • Do not paint when wet
    • Patch-test the colour first
