Description
Two Pack Epoxy High Build Micaceous Iron Oxide (MIO) Primer is a premium-grade coating designed to deliver exceptional protection by locking out moisture, especially in environments exposed to harsh elements and salt water. Its high-build formula, reinforced with micaceous iron oxide, provides an impenetrable barrier that shields metal surfaces from moisture, making it ideal for extreme conditions.
For optimal protection, we recommend a coating system that begins with either a Two Pack Epoxy Zinc Rich or Zinc Phosphate Primer, followed by a coat of Two Pack Epoxy MIO Primer, and finished with a durable Two Pack Epoxy Topcoat. This system offers superior longevity and corrosion resistance for metal structures exposed to the most demanding environments.
Two Pack Epoxy MIO Primer is highly adaptable and can be used in a variety of applications, including:
- Metal surfaces
- Marine equipment exposed to salt water
- Chassis paint for vehicles and machinery
- Agricultural machinery
- Cranes and lifting gear
- Skips and containers used in industrial setting
Do not apply two pack epoxy paint in temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius, as the cross-linking of the paint and catalyst will not occur, preventing the coating from fully drying.
It is also essential to remember that two pack epoxy paints cannot be applied over existing single pack paints, as they will react with them.

Application
Step 1 - Prep: Ensure the substrate is completely dry and free of any dirt, oil, or grease by using a degreaser.
Step 2 - Prime: Apply one coat of either Two Pack Epoxy Zinc Rich or Zinc Phophate primer then 12-24 hours after apply a coat of the MIO.
This product does not have anti-corrosive properties, so it is not recommended to apply direct to metal.
Step 3 - Topcoat: Once the previous steps are complete, apply your first coat of Two Pack Epoxy Top Coat within 12-24 hours.
Mixing
- Use a mixer on a slow-running drill or a palette knife on smaller cans to mix the paint and catalyst together. An egg whisk, screwdriver, or small stick that doesn’t reach the bottom of the can is insufficient for proper mixing.
- Mix for 3-5 minutes, allow to stand for a minute, and then repeat.
- Combine the catalyst into the can before pouring it into a paint tray.
- If you are thinning the paint, this is added once the paint has been catalysed.
- Ensure all components are thoroughly mixed to avoid any colour inconsistencies or drying issues.
