Description
Two Pack Epoxy Non Slip Concrete Floor Paint comes with the aggregate pre-mixed, creating a rough, textured finish that’s ready to apply straight from the can—just be sure to stir thoroughly first. This finish is ideal for areas exposed to moisture or spills.
This is suitable for use on concrete floors where heavy traffic will occur. For use on garage, industrial factory, warehouse, industrial kitchen and shop floors to provide a highly protective and hard wearing coating with excellent chemical resistance.
The most cost effective way and ease of application is on your first coat apply standard smooth paint and then after 12-24 hours apply the second coat non slip.
Important Notice:
- Do not apply two pack epoxy paint in temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius, as the cross-linking of the paint and catalyst will not occur, preventing the coating from fully drying.
- While epoxy coatings are renowned for their superior chemical resistance and protection against the elements, it is important to note that colours may chalk and fade when used in external applications.
- Epoxy floor paints cannot be used over single-pack coatings, as they will attack the existing paint.
About This Item
NEW 3-IN-1 TECHNOLOGY: Primes, seals and protects with just two coats. For bare concrete we recommend thinning the first coat by 20% with T0200 thinners, which acts as the primer/sealer.
ANTI SLIP: The aggregate is pre mixed into the paint , providing a rough textured finish.
APPLICATION: Apply by brush or solvent-resistant medium pile rollers.
MIXING RATIO: The mixing ratio 4:1. 4 parts paint to 1 part hardener.
POT LIFE: Once the components are mixed, the pot life is around 4-6 hours.
COVERAGE: Approximately 8 square metres per litre. This does not account for the method of application, absorption of substrate or wastage.
DRYING TIMES: Full curing takes 7 days, but the area can be walked on after 4 days.
THINNERS: T0200 Epoxy thinner
Proudly manufactured in England by B.C Paints Ltd. Images and product titles are for advertising purposes only; tins are supplied in BC Paints cans or plain white for 1 and 2.5, and occasionally 5 litre cans.
Application
Application - Painting Bare Concrete:
New concrete floors require a curing period, typically ranging from 3-5 months after the floor is laid. This duration can vary based on the thickness and quality of the concrete. It’s advisable to consult with the supplier or fitter regarding the specific waiting time before painting.
Never pre-seal the floor prior to painting, particularly with latex or PVC sealers, as paint will not adhere properly.
Step 1 - Preparation: Ensure the workspace is well-ventilated to allow vapours to escape, as poor air circulation may hinder proper drying.
Ensure the substrate is completely dry and free of any dirt, oil, or grease.
Power floated and smooth concrete floors will need abrading prior to painting.
Step 2 - First Coat: For the first coat, we recommend using the standard smooth Two-Pack Epoxy Paint, as it’s easier to apply than the non-slip version. Thin the paint by 20% with T0200 Epoxy Thinners, which helps it penetrate the concrete and act as a primer/sealer. If you prefer to use the Non-Slip Epoxy Paint for the first coat, the same 20% thinning applies.
Begin by cutting in around the edges with a 2- or 3-inch brush, and work backwards towards the exit.
Step 3 - Second Coat: Overcoating should be done between 12-24 hours. Within this time, you can apply the second coat.
Application - Painting Over Existing Paint:
Step 1 – Preparation: Before starting, verify that the product is compatible with the existing paint by testing a small area first, two pack epoxy paints will attack single pack paints.
Ensure the workspace is well-ventilated to allow vapours to escape, as poor air circulation may hinder proper drying.
Step 2 – Clean and Abrade: Ensure the existing paint is in good condition. Lightly abrade the surface to create a key for proper adhesion between coats. Remove any flaking paint, and make sure the surface is clean and free of dirt, oil, or grease before painting.
Step 3 – Topcoat: After completing the prep and cleaning steps, apply the first coat of topcoat. Begin by cutting in around the edges with a 2- or 3-inch brush, and work backwards towards the exit.
Step 4 - Second Coat: If you are applying two coats, overcoating should be done between 12-24 hours. Within this time, you can apply the second coat.
Mixing
- Use a mixer on a slow-running drill or a palette knife on smaller cans to mix the paint and catalyst together. An egg whisk, screwdriver, or small stick that doesn’t reach the bottom of the can is insufficient for proper mixing.
- Thoroughly stir the paint before adding the catalyst as the aggregate can settle on the surface.
- Mix the catalyst into the paint for 3-5 minutes, allow to stand for a minute, and then repeat.
- Combine the catalyst into the can before pouring it into a paint tray.
- If you are thinning the paint for the first coat, this is added once the paint has been catalysed.
Ensure all components are thoroughly mixed to avoid any colour inconsistencies or drying issues. If the non-slip component isn't mixed well, you'll end up with a thick concentration of it initially, causing uneven distribution resulting in less non-slip texture as you use more of the paint.
