Painting over existing paint
Step 1 - Check suitability of the product to the existing paint. We recommend you try a sample area first.
Step 2 Clean and Abrade -
- Before you start, have your PPE ready as our paint is oil based so will not wash off easily with soap and water.
- Ensure substate is completely dry and is clean of any dirt, oil, or grease.
- Make sure the existing paint is in good condition prior to painting, then lightly abrade to provide a key for good intercoat adhesion.
- If there is flaking paint this must be removed prior to painting.
- Ensure you have good ventilation to allow solvent vapor to escape, if there is no air movement the coating will not dry as well.
Step 4 Topcoat- Once you have completed the following steps you can apply your top coat. Apply a second coat 12-24 hours after the first coat.
Cut in around the edges first with a 2 to 3 inch brush, then work backwards towards your exit.
When painting large areas, it's easier to pour the paint on the floor in stages, spread it out using a squeegee then back roll with a roller to release the air, to avoid having a bubbly finish as the air is trapped in the coating during the drying process.
Application - Painting a bare substrate
Never pre seal the floor prior to painting especially with latex or PVC sealers paint will not stick.
Step 1 - Ensure substrate completely dry and is clean of any dirt, oil, or grease.
Before putting paint on the floor ensure you have good ventilation to allow solvent vapor to escape, if there is no air movement the coating will not dry as well.
Step 2 Prime –Concrete is a porous material so we recommend on the first coat to thin it by 20% to ensure it impregnates the concrete, this will act as your primer / sealer. We also recommend that you use a standard concrete paint for the first coat for ease of application and it will keep the cost down.
Step 3 Topcoat – 12-24 hours after applying the first coat you can add your first coat of topcoat. Wait another 12-24 hours and then apply the second coat.
